THE FIRST ACTIVITY

This is the first original work I created during Year 11. It was part of a youth leadership project and required me to create a piece of creative work that was a form of ‘self-expression.’ Hence, I created this quill that abstracted and merged many of my motives, challenges and goals in life in the form of symbols which are dispersed seamlessly into the quill. The planning and execution of these array of small images took a few weeks of planning and drafting. I experimented a few mediums and materials before deciding to simply use an ink pen and paper. The images have clarity in terms of their surface meaning but the real messages behind them are underlying and complex. The quill on its own was a symbol of being able to write your own fate and how all the factors that shape you as a person in your past, pave the way for future decisions.

‘Fallingwater’ (1935) By Frank Lloyd Wright

Revolutionising 20th-century architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright’s ‘Fallingwater’ based in the United States, unifies buildings with their environments and visually blurs the line between built structures and natural habitats. The monumental work is now a UNESCO world heritage site and features a concrete terrace floating above the waterfall. The building draws nature inside its three floors: natural cliffs protrude from the central fireplace, southern light enters through expansive corner windows, and the sound of rushing water is always present. Fallingwater was constructed of native sandstone and other materials quarried from the property, to
achieve a delicate synthesis of the natural and built environment.

An Original Photograph

This was an original photo taken at Taronga zoo during Vivid Sydney. The LED display transforms the Harbour City into a colourful creative canvas. An ethereal experience is evoked through the medium of light to transform everyday objects and elements into works of art. The contrasting colour scheme and vectors captivate the eyes and mesmerise viewers from afar, attracting them to the alluring lights. Using Vivid’s projection technology, these family-friendly installations showcase the beauty, emotion and evocative appeal of wild animals. Since light is deemed a symbol of hope this photograph captures the respect towards different living species which populate the world and the hope to live in harmony with mankind.
