STAIR SUBMISSION:
Word: Metamorphose (ground to top floor stairs)
Artist: Trent Jensen

Description:
- The slanted and hollow elements of these stairs foster the permeability of light, while it's minimal structural support (being secured to the wall), serve to retain the focus on change forms (metamorphose). The appearance of Trent Jensen's work is something that alters with the direction and type of light being shone at it, allowing it to in a sense, metamorphose. The elaborate use of white oak wood with its smooth texture on the risers and walls alongside the glass panels underneath the handrail grants the viewer an unrestricted view of the craftsmanship and intricate woodwork that is characteristic of Trent Jensen's furniture. The simple geometric shapes are another feature of Trent Jensen's cupboard that I have chosen to adopt in my design.

Word: Insidious (ground to bottom floor stairs)
Artist: Khyzyl Saleem
Description:
- The primary helix structure of the spiral staircase is supported by a central pole, with a large cross-sectional area to support its own weight. The sharp protruding underside of each individual tread, cumulatively, creates an array of jagged shapes which serve as an undertone to the word "insidious." White coated aluminium (central pole), wrought iron handrails and balustrades alongside the titanium stringer illustrating an emphasis on metals and coating, something Khyzyl Saleem specialises in his car exteriors. The scale and twisting nature of the stairs, serve as an architecture promenade, forcing the observer to look around the gallery. The curved form of the stairs can be aligned with the non-linear nature of the car's outer edges, that I have chosen as inspiration for these stairs. (Noun, adjective word).

Word: Squamous (ground to top floor stairs)
Artist: Trent Jensen
Description:
The growing scales which protrude from the ground floor, flatten to form an unconventional tread. Trent Jensen's unique take on ordinary pieces of everyday furniture serves as the basis of inspiration, where the theme of scales reminds us of these wooden structures. Hence similar craftsmanship is adapted to mimic the textures on his cupboards which protrude from a wooden mass. The natural materials (vines, plastic branches and wood) symbolise Trent Jensen's preoccupation with the natural and raw elements.

The only inspiration I drew upon was my word "squamous" and the shapes and scales in my sketches alongside Trent Jensen's cupboard (uploaded under Task 1).
Word: Aperture (ground to bottom floor stairs)
Artist: Khyzyl SaleemDescription:
This stair features more openings than closed materials as an observation of the sheer amount of grills and sleek exhaust pipes/ windows in Khyzyl Saleem's cars. There are minimal structural supports and the large PVC posts come down from the landing on the top floor to make up treads for the stairs. Nylon wires close of the gaps in the stairs, allowing light to permeate. High definition LED lights similar to modified headlights on cars are found beneath the stairs and adjacent to the treads. The soft corners of the treads juxtapose the rough granite brick textures of the wall. This serves to contrast the sleek, flowing designs of Saleem's cars versus the roughness of the terrain they are modelled on.
